New York City has the responsibility—and the authority—to protect its residents from unconstitutional federal overreach. But today, ICE and federal agencies continue to operate in ways that erode community trust, undermine due process, and put immigrant New Yorkers at risk.

The City Council is considering four bills that would finally:

• Enforce sanctuary protections

• Stop ICE abuses in city jails

• Expand transparency

• Prevent employers from using federal verification systems as tools of intimidation

These bills ensure New York City—not federal agencies—sets the rules for what happens in our city and city-owned facilities and protects immigrant communities.
