지난주, 연방통신위원회(FCC)는 디지털 격차 해소를 위한 큰 진전을 이루었습니다. FCC는 저소득층 가구의 인터넷 연결을 위한 라이프라인(Lifeline) 프로그램 현대화에 착수하기로 결정했습니다. 1985년 레이건 행정부 시절 설립된 라이프라인은 원래 저소득층 가구의 유선 전화 서비스 이용을 저렴하게 하는 데 기여했습니다. 2008년, FCC는 휴대전화 보조금을 허용하기 위해 라이프라인을 개편했습니다. 현재 자격을 갖춘 가구는 $9.25의 보조금을 받을 수 있습니다.
