Voting & Fair Representation: Protecting Your Voice

We all deserve a say in choosing leaders who will fight for us in the halls of power. The right to vote must be secure, fair, and open to all.

Our votes are how we decide the future for our families, our communities, and our country. But too often, politicians pass unfair voting rules that drown out the voices of everyday people or rig legislative maps so we don’t get a real choice. That’s why Common Cause protects your voice at the ballot box, in Congress, in state legislatures, in the courts, and beyond. We have passed hundreds of commonsense solutions that give every American a say in our futureincluding vote-by-mail, online voter registration, early voting, and independent redistricting – and blocked voter suppression policies like strict voter ID and purges of registered voters.

President Trump and his allies have spent the past 100 days attacking our rights, undermining our democracy, and enriching the ultra-wealthy, while driving up the cost of living for working-class Americans. It’s a deliberate strategy to distract and divide us while they seize power and wealth.

We see through their games. It’s time to join together and demand something different — not just by resisting their agenda, but by offering our own that guarantees justice, equality,...

Thanks to months of hard work and tireless advocacy from Common Cause members like you, along with the hundreds of coalition partners, activists, and supporters of voting rights who showed up at committee hearings, sent emails, made calls, and spread the word across social media.

House Passes Modern Day Poll Tax in SAVE Act

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the SAVE Act (HR 22), legislation that will make it significantly harder and more expensive for tens of millions of American to vote in elections. Under the proposed legislation, every American would have to provide in-person proof of citizenship to register to vote and update their voter registration. Additionally, the SAVE Act would make it impossible for Americans to register to vote by mail, end to voter registration drives, and end online voter registration for the 42 states.
