","featured_image":"","press_type":146,"authors":"","related_issues":[395],"related_work":[298],"location":17},"sidebar":{"helper_enable_sidebar":false,"helper_media_contact":{"heading":"Media Contact","manually_enter_person":true,"person":null,"name":"Julia Vaughn","role":"","phone":"","email":"jvaughn@commoncause.org"},"helper_links_downloads":{"heading":"Links & Downloads","links":null}},"page_layout":[{"acf_fc_layout":"layout_wysiwyg","_acfe_flexible_toggle":null,"component_wysiwyg":{"content":"During the\u00a0Democracy Day 2026 press conference<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/b>the\u00a0ALL IN for Democracy coalition\u00a0released new data\u00a0showing\u00a0young Indiana\u00a0voters\u00a0care deeply about politics and policy in the Hoosier\u00a0state but\u00a0face significant\u00a0barriers\u00a0to access the ballot.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nBoth\u00a0ReCenter\u00a0Indiana and Count Us Indiana\u00a0revealed new data\u00a0from\u00a0surveying and conducting focus groups with Hoosiers under\u00a0the\u00a0age\u00a0of\u00a035.\u00a0The results show\u00a0lack of\u00a0voting\u00a0options, confusion about\u00a0different ways\u00a0to vote, and other barriers to voting are the\u00a0biggest reasons why young Hoosiers did not vote in the most recent election.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cOur\u00a0fellows surveyed young voters ages 18 to 35 in over 14 counties, capturing what matters most to them,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>said\u00a0Jalyn\u00a0Radziminski, Executive and Lead Policy Director of Count US\u00a0IN.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u201cWhile many shared feelings of anger and exhaustion with a broken system, the data shows something powerful: most young voters still plan to vote in the upcoming primary and want to stay engaged beyond just casting a ballot.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\"ReCenter\u00a0Indiana conducted a research study of registered voters ages 18\u201334 who were registered but did not vote in the last election,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>said Jocelyn Vare, Executive Director,\u00a0ReCenter\u00a0Indiana.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u201cOur research shows\u00a0young adult non-voters care\u00a0deeply but\u00a0feel their vote\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0matter. They want their voices heard, more convenient voting, and genuine candidates who address issues that matter to them.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nIn response,\u00a0members of the ALL IN for Democracy coalition called on the\u00a0legislature to take these\u00a0Hoosiers\u00a0seriously and to make voting\u00a0more convenient\u00a0for all eligible Hoosiers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cThis latest data reinforces what we have already seen in other\u00a0sources \u2013 voting in Indiana is harder than\u00a0it should\u00a0be,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>said Julia Vaughn, Common Cause Indiana Executive Director<\/span><\/b>. \u201cT<\/span>he Indiana General Assembly\u00a0isn't\u00a0responding\u00a0to what Hoosier voters want and need to become consistent, regular voters.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0time they finally listen to the\u00a0people and enact changes that allow all eligible Hoosiers an easier voting experience\u00a0and the opportunity to\u00a0impact\u00a0our state\u2019s future through civic\u00a0participation.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>"}},{"acf_fc_layout":"layout_add_component","_acfe_flexible_toggle":null,"component_add_component":null},{"acf_fc_layout":"layout_work","_acfe_flexible_toggle":null,"component_work":{"heading":"Work","manually_curate":false,"work":null}}]},"yoast_head":"\nNew Surveys: Young Hoosiers Want to Vote, Barriers Must be Removed -
