Valparaiso City Councilwoman Barbara Domer is introducing legislation to create an independent redistricting commission to draw city council voting maps.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe two groups will lead a conversation on the proposal that aims to give residents the power to choose their representatives at city hall.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n\u201cThe people of Valparaiso deserve to be heard when it comes to their local districts and how neighborhoods and communities are grouped together. We\u2019re giving them an opportunity to be heard, to learn about the proposal, and how we think it will help Valparaiso in the future,\u201d said <\/span>Julia Vaughn, executive director of Common Cause Indiana.<\/span><\/b>\r\n\r\n\u201cMy decision to run for City Council was prompted, in part, by my involvement with the City Council redistricting process in 2022, and I firmly believe this is a process that can, and should, be directed by voters, not politicians. It is time Valparaiso\u00a0takes the map drawing process out of the hands of the politicians and into the hands of the people!
