Coalition Urges House Speaker to Stop Bad Election Bill

Letter comes after Speaker expresses concern about Senate election bills

The All IN for Democracy coalition, a group of pro-democracy groups, is urging House Speaker Todd Huston to follow through with his expressed concerns about major election law changes proposed by the Senate and sink SB10 this legislative session.

The coalition sent a letter to Speaker Huston this week explaining the many problems with SB10, which would disallow students from using their student IDs to vote, would make voter registration more burdensome for election clerks, and generally make Indiana election administration worse.

You can view the letter here.

“This bill is a far-reaching and unnecessary proposal that further complicates Indiana’s voting and voter registration process. The All IN for Democracy coalition was encouraged that Speaker Hudson expressed concerns, and we would encourage him to put a stop to these harmful changes to Indiana’s elections,” said Julia Vaughn, Executive Director of Common Cause Indiana.
