Press Release
2nd Congressional District Town Hall Today
The public is invited to a town hall today, April 14, from 6 to 8 pm at the Gillespie Event Center to discuss pressing issues and to hopefully hear from their elected representative, Rep. Rudy Yakym.
The event is co-hosted by Common Cause Indiana and the Michiana Alliance for Democracy, a member of the Indivisible network. Rep. Yakym has been invited but has not confirmed attendance.
Regardless of whether Rep. Yakym attends, attendees can expect to hear from experts on issues like education, immigration, civil rights, campus free speech, health care, environment and foreign policy. There will also be a Q & A portion of the town hall.
“As the People’s Lobby, Common Cause Indiana believes it’s important to hold space for our elected officials to hear from the people, directly. Nearly every aspect of Hoosiers’ lives has been disrupted in the last 3 months, and we want to hold our elected officials accountable by creating a space for the people to organize and be heard,” said Julia Vaughn, Common Cause Indiana Executive Director.
“Michiana Alliance for Democracy is proud to team up with Common Cause Indiana. We are disappointed that Representative Yakym has not responded to our invitation to be a part of this Town Hall forum. We will move forward with this event and provide the opportunity for voters to ask questions and express concerns. We have invited a panel of experts on a wide range of topics to help inform the discussion. We plan to hand deliver written audience questions for Representative Yakym if he chooses not to attend,” said Cheryl Nix, Michiana Alliance for Democracy, a member of the Indivisible Network.
