Indiana Citizens Redistricting Commission Announces Winners of Mapping Competition

Today, members of the Indiana Citizens Redistricting Commission (ICRC) announced the winners of its redistricting mapping competition for State House of Representatives, State Senate, and Congress. The winning maps will be used as the standard by which to judge the maps drawn by the Indiana General Assembly and will be a valuable tool to hold legislators accountable for the mapping decisions they make.

Indiana Faith Leaders Urge Statewide Hearings or Timeline Extension in This Year’s Redistricting Cycle

Indiana faith leaders gathered today at the Statehouse chapel to demand that the General Assembly hold multiple statewide public hearings for the public to give input on new district maps or extend the redistricting timeline. Leaders representing a diversity of faith traditions underscored how a democratic process that will shape our elections for the next decade demands the highest levels of public debate and participation, more than one day of public hearings.

Today, All IN for Democracy, Indiana’s coalition for Independent Redistricting, announced a first-in-the-state community mapping contest that allows Hoosiers to win cash prizes for drawing fair district maps in this year’s redistricting cycle.

Indiana’s Pro-Democracy Coalition Demands Greater Transparency in State’s Redistricting Process

Today, Common Cause Indiana, All IN for Democracy, Indiana State Conference of the NAACP, and Women4Change demanded Indiana state leaders immediately disclose details of the Republican political consultant they hired to oversee the state’s redistricting process at a press conference at the Indiana Statehouse. The leaders highlighted the significant conflict of interest a political hire poses for redistricting, a process that should not unfairly favor one political party.

Democracy Reform Activists Hold “Gerrymander Meander Votercade” for Fair Redistricting

Yesterday, democracy advocates participated in All IN for Democracy's “Gerrymander Meander Votercade” along Meridian Street in support of fair redistricting and elections in Indiana. The event was held just a month before Indiana will receive data from the 2020 Census that will inform the drawing of new congressional, state, and local political jurisdictions, a process known as redistricting that takes place every ten years.
