Vice President’s Visit Ignores Hoosiers on Redistricting
Common Cause Indiana is releasing the following statement in response to Vice President JD Vance’s second visit to Indiana to try to strong– arm state lawmakers into mid-decade redistricting that Hoosiers soundly reject.
“Hoosiers have made it clear they want no part of mid-decade redistricting, and it’s time Vice President Vance and the Trump White House listen to them,” said Common Cause Indiana Executive Director Julia Vaughn. “Rather than lowering prices and ensuring the cost of our health care coverage doesn’t triple, the vice president is focused on partisan games. On behalf of our members across the state, we are asking Vice President Vance go back to DC and put his energies where they are most needed: brokering a deal to open the federal government.”
Both state and national polling show mid-decade redistricting is unpopular with Americans, including Republicans and Trump voters. It is a clear message to the White House that their own voters do not want their attention on this unpopular topic.
Common Cause Indiana is a state leader in redistricting. The organization has active independent redistricting commission campaigns in Valparaiso and is organizing similar campaigns in West Lafayette and Michigan City.
In 2024, Common Cause Indiana won a landmark redistricting case against the city of Anderson. Before the ruling, Anderson had not updated its city council maps in decades.
