VP Vance Should Focus on Other Things Important to Hoosiers
In response to Vice President JD Vance coming to Indiana to push mid-decade gerrymandering, Common Cause Indiana Executive Director Julia Vaughn is releasing the following statement.
“Vice President Vance should spend his time in Indiana listening to the real problems Hoosiers face – broken promises on lowering prices, a shaky economy, and the effects of major federal and state budget cuts. That is what Hoosiers are focused on right now,” said Common Cause Indiana Executive Director Julia Vaughn. “Indiana is already a terribly gerrymandered state, from the Congressional level all the way to local city councils and we don’t need more gerrymandered districts. Common Cause Indiana has fought hard to get Hoosiers fair, equal representation at all levels of government and we continue to do so in places like Anderson and Valparaiso.”
Common Cause Indiana has active independent redistricting commission campaigns in Valparaiso and is organizing similar campaigns in West Lafayette and Michigan City. In 2024, Common Cause Indiana won a landmark redistricting case against the city of Anderson. Before the ruling, Anderson had not updated its city council maps in decades.
