Common Cause Georgia Statement on Secret Plans of Fake Trump Electors

Right now, in Georgia, mere presence at the scene of a crime is not sufficient evidence to convict someone of being a party to the crime. But this bill seems intended to change that.

The nonpartisan organization has drafted a proposed ordinance that would prohibit campaign donor relationships between municipal vendors and the elected officials who make contracting decisions. Companies that have made campaign contributions to relevant municipal officials would no longer be eligible to hold or bid on city contracts.

Fair Fight Action alongside Common Cause Georgia and other groups sent a letter to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in response to his reckless and dangerous rhetoric casting doubt on Fulton County’s elections administration and calling on him to “reject any partisan attempt to take over Fulton County elections through Senate Bill 202 or through any other means.”

Georgia Republicans didn’t like the results of the 2020 election so they decided they would try to dictate who they will let vote and who they won’t let vote. Republican legislators have deliberately targeted Black and brown Georgians with a disgraceful string of bills that harken back to the dark days of Jim Crow in Georgia. If anyone has any doubts whatsoever about the racial targeting of this proposed legislation they need look no further than its ban on weekend early voting which will end Souls to the Polls, the longstanding tradition of Black congregations in Georgia going to vote after Sunday services.

In the wake of Wednesday’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Common Cause Georgia is calling for the immediate resignation of Representatives Rick W. Allen, Earl L. "Buddy" Carter, Andrew S. Clyde, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Jody B. Hice and Barry Loudermilk after they voted to overturn the will of the people, failed to accept the results of the 2020 presidential election, and played a clear role in spreading disinformation around the election, leading to the violence.
