Join the Common Cause Georgia Elections Action Team

Georgia's elections face mounting threats from federal overreach, right-wing activist infiltration of county boards of elections, and voter intimidation tactics like proposed ICE presence at polling locations. Common Cause Georgia is fighting back by recruiting volunteers for two critical roles: Board of Elections monitors who attend county BOE meetings, track local developments, and help build county-specific advocacy strategies; and Election Protection volunteers who show up on Election Day to ensure every eligible voter can cast their ballot free from interference or intimidation. Training is provided for all volunteers, and stipends are available for those who need financial support to participate. Whether you can commit to one role or both, your involvement helps defend free and fair elections in Georgia.

Our elections are under attack. Together we can defend our democracy.

The current administration has taken multiple steps to undermine free and fair elections. Georgia is at the center of their strategy.

In Georgia, county boards of elections are responsible for administering our elections from managing polling locations to certifying results. Despite their critical role, most people know very little about them. The majority of these boards take their responsibility very seriously and administer non-partisan, efficient elections every year. However, they have increasingly become the target of right wing activists seeking to manipulate the electoral process from the inside.

On Election Day, thousands of polling locations open their doors to millions of Georgia voters. Protecting the rights of voters means ensuring these polling locations open and close on time, that no eligible voter is turned away, and that voters are free from intimidation. Every election there are concerns about law enforcement interference, or other individuals interfering or intimidating voters. This year right wing activists close to the current administration have advocated to send ICE to the polls in the upcoming elections, a direct attempt to intimidate voters and suppress turnout.

In response to these threats, we are recruiting volunteers for two critical areas of work:

Board of Elections (BOE) Monitoring involves attending board of elections meetings at counties throughout the state. Volunteers take detailed notes, track what’s happening at the local level, and help us build actions and strategies around the specific needs of each county. This work is ongoing and helps us stay informed and organized ahead of Election Day.

We want to organize as many people as are interested to monitor and advocate for fair, non-partisan elections. The lead(s) for a county will be the main point of contact for their county on what is happening in the meetings, note taking, and helping educate other board of election monitors.

Election Protection involves showing up at specific polling locations on Election Day to support voters directly. Election Protection volunteers document any issues voters are facing and help ensure every eligible voter can cast their ballot without interference, intimidation, or obstruction.

Training will be provided for all volunteers so you feel confident and prepared before you begin.

Stipends, when available, are offered to support volunteers who need financial assistance to participate fully in this work. At Common Cause, we believe financial pressure should never be a barrier to civic engagement. Please note that stipends are limited. For BOE Monitoring, we will prioritize stipends for county leads, who take on greater responsibility in coordinating and sustaining the work in their county.

Whether you can commit to one role or both, your participation matters. Fill out the form below to tell us how you’d like to get involved.
