Berman showed appropriate independence and integrity when he successfully prosecuted Trump lawyer Michael Cohen for crimes detailed in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/resource\/common-cause-v-trump-cohen-stormy-daniels\/\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">multiple<\/span><\/a> <span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">complaints<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Common Cause filed with the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">DOJ early in 2018. Berman has also prosecuted associates of Trump and Rudy Giuliani at the center of the Ukraine scandal, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">all named <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/resource\/common-cause-v-trump-ukraine-contribution-solicitation\/\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">complaint<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Common Cause filed with the DOJ last year<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2014with investigation of Giuliani reportedly ongoing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Common Cause <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Barr-Impeachment-Letter_12.17.19-FINAL.pdf\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">called for William Barr\u2019s impeachment in December 2019<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and we renew that call today. Barr\u2019s attempted Friday night firing of Berman is <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">yet another example of Barr\u2019s willingness to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> damage <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">our nation\u2019s <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">system of justice <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to protect President Trump and the Republican Party<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Americans expect and deserve an Attorney General who enforces the law impartially, not one who abuses his office to accommodate the whims of a President who believes he has unlimited power. Barr has turned a proud and honorable <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Justice <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Department into a political tool of a corrupt presidency.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Congress cannot allow these abuses to stand. Barr had been scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on March 31, but the hearing was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
