But now is not the time to give up. This is the time to double down and stand firm for our shared values and democratic principles.\r\n\r\nHere\u2019s one big reason for hope: across the country, there are dedicated individuals working tirelessly to advance our democracy, even if their efforts don\u2019t always make the headlines.\r\n\r\nAs legislative sessions kick off nationwide,\u00a0 We want to share some of the \"good trouble\" we\u2019ve been getting into to protect and expand voting rights:\r\n

Maryland<\/h3>\r\nOur Common Cause team is advocating for the Maryland Voting Rights Act, a significant step forward in protecting voters of color and empowering communities to challenge discriminatory local laws. This bill also expands language access, ensuring that all eligible voters, including those whose first language isn\u2019t English, can confidently cast their ballots.\r\n

Massachusetts<\/h3>\r\nOur team is pushing for same-day voter registration. This would allow people to register and vote on the same day, ensuring no one misses the opportunity to make their voice heard.\r\n

Indiana<\/h3>\r\nCommon Cause secured a major victory for fair representation in Anderson. After we filed a lawsuit challenging outdated city council districts that hadn\u2019t been updated since the 1980s, the city approved a new map that meets constitutional requirements.\r\n

Colorado<\/h3>\r\nOur team at Colorado Common Cause is championing a Voting Rights Act bill that will prohibit unfair local election practices, expand access to multilingual ballots, and protect LGBTQ voters.\r\n

Arizona<\/h3>\r\nCommon Cause Arizona is mobilizing to stop a bill banning Election Day ballot drop-offs, which would strip away a vital voting option for seniors, working families, tribal communities, and anyone unable to stand in long lines on Election Day.\r\n

Virginie<\/h3>\r\nAs part of the Virginia Right to Vote Coalition, Common Cause is working to pass a constitutional amendment to restore voting rights for people who\u2019ve served their time and protect voting rights for people with disabilities. This amendment passed the Senate and now heads to the House.\r\n

Caroline du Nord<\/h3>\r\nCommon Cause North Carolina is exposing a dangerous scheme to throw out 60,000 lawful votes and overturn an election. Justice Allison Riggs won her race for the NC Supreme Court, but her opponent is trying to disqualify votes\u2014many from young and Black voters\u2014to claim the seat. We\u2019re fighting back with a rapid response campaign to protect voters and defend democracy.\r\n

Illinois<\/h3>\r\nWith the support of our partners at UnlockCivics, Common Cause is pushing to pass the RACE Act, which would restore voting rights for people in prison after their conviction. This legislation ensures that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has a voice in our democracy.\r\n\r\nNone of these efforts would be possible without the support of engaged members like you. Democracy thrives when everyday people roll up their sleeves and tackle the issues head-on, day in and day out.\r\n\r\nRemember, the fight for democracy isn\u2019t just about the next 100 days or even the next four years. It\u2019s about building a system that lasts for generations\u2014one where every voice is heard, and every vote counts.
