Here is a timeline of the recent ALEC exodus:<\/p><p><strong>August 19<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/democracy-wire\/microsoft-leaves-alec.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft<\/a> announced it was leaving ALEC.<\/p><p><strong>September 3<sup>rd<\/sup>:<\/strong> 55 organizations, including Common Cause, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/presse\/press-releases\/common-cause-joins-over-50.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">envoy\u00e9 une lettre<\/a> to Google executives asking the company to leave ALEC.<\/p><p><strong>September 22<sup>nd<\/sup>:<\/strong> On National Public Radio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/democracy-wire\/google-chairman-denounces-alec.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">Google<\/a> Chairman Eric Schmidt said ALEC was &ldquo;lying&rdquo; about climate change and funding ALEC was a mistake. Google confirmed that it was also leaving ALEC.<\/p><p><strong>September 23<sup>rd<\/sup>:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/news\/article\/Facebook-to-cut-ties-with-conservative-policy-5776055.php#page-1\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a> announced that it was unlikely to renew its ALEC membership.<\/p><p><strong>24 septembre<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/presse\/press-releases\/yelp-leaves-alec.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yelp<\/a> confirmed to Common Cause that it was no longer a member of ALEC and left the organization months ago. After numerous public statements saying they were staying with ALEC, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/democracy-wire\/yahoo-cuts-ties.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yahoo<\/a> announced it was also leaving ALEC.<\/p><p><strong>25 septembre<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/democracy-wire\/uber-and-lyft-leave-alec-at-curb.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">Uber and Lyft<\/a>, two of ALEC&rsquo;s top prospects and meeting attendees, confirmed to Common Cause that they have no plans in joining or continuing to participate in ALEC.<\/p><p><strong>September 26<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/democracy-wire\/international-paper-leaves.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">International Paper<\/a> confirmed to Common Cause that it was no longer an ALEC member.<\/p><p><strong>September 29<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaljournal.com\/energy\/large-oil-company-bolts-from-alec-20140929\" target=\"_blank\">Occidental Petroleum<\/a> announced it was leaving ALEC.<\/p><p><strong>30 septembre<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>:<\/strong> The Center for Media and Democracy announced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prwatch.org\/news\/2014\/09\/12612\/news-corp-occidental-among-latest-firms-cut-ties-alec\" target=\"_blank\">News Corp and Overstock.com<\/a> have both cut ties with ALEC.<\/p><p><strong>October 7<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>:<\/strong> 81 organizations, including Common Cause, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/democracy-wire\/over-80-orgs-ask-ebay-to-leave-alec.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">envoy\u00e9 une lettre<\/a> to eBay executives asking the corporation leave ALEC.<\/p><p><strong>November 6<sup>\u00e8me<\/sup>:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/nick-surgey\/alec-corporate-board-chai_b_6115444.html\" target=\"_blank\">SAP<\/a>, one of the largest software companies in the world and chair of ALEC&rsquo;s private board, told the Center for Media and Democracy it was leaving ALEC because of ALEC&rsquo;s work on climate change denial, renewable energy, voting rights, and gun control.<\/p><p><strong>November 10<\/strong><strong><strong><sup>\u00e8me<\/sup><\/strong>:<\/strong> An AOL company official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/fr\/presse\/press-releases\/aol-to-end-alec-membership.html\/\">confirm\u00e9 <\/a>to Common Cause that the company had decided to leave ALEC &ldquo;a number of weeks ago.&rdquo;<\/p><p><strong>December 18th: <\/strong>eBay <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ebayinc\/status\/545715520528322561\">confirmed on Twitter<\/a> that they would not renew their ALEC membership<\/p>"}}]},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v26.6 (Yoast SEO v27.1.1) -
