While Americans are struggling to afford basic necessities, the Trump Administration is pouring billions of dollars into an illegal war in Iran.
In just days, this conflict has already drained $5 billion from taxpayers’ pockets. Experts warn the total could skyrocket to $210 billion in a matter of weeks.
This is the same administration that only last year said there was “no money” for healthcare, food assistance, housing and more. They cut $1 trillion to Medicaid and $187 billion to SNAP alone, not to mention billions more in federal funding.
Apparently, we can’t afford programs that lower costs for millions of Americans, but the checkbook is wide open for an illegal war that 75% of Americans oppose. Make que make sense.
It’s clear the Trump Administration’s priorities are completely out of whack. Here’s five things your hard-earned tax dollars could be funding instead of an unpopular, illegal war in the Middle East.
The Trump Administration cut Medicaid funding by $1 trillion over the next 10 years, or about $100 billion each year. That choice stripped 7.6 million Americans of their healthcare. Restoring this funding would save lives.
Last year, Republicans slashed $187 billion in SNAP funds. Now, 2.4 million children and families have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. No child in the wealthiest nation in the world should go hungry while we’re funding bombs abroad.
President Trump’s budget gutted $26 billion in rental assistance programs, including Section 8 housing. That money could have kept thousands of families in their homes instead of on the streets.
President Trump slashed $1.1 billion from public media, which includes NPR. That means everything from your local news to NPR’s popular Tiny Desk series are at risk.
Slashing $1.1 billion from public media also includes PBS. That means educational programming like Sesame Street, historical dramas like Downtown Abbey, and breaking news segments like Frontline will suffer from funding cuts.
