Three Times Trump Admitted the SAVE Act is a GOP Power Play

Trump's favored national legislation is a way to pick and choose who can vote for him.

No matter what the legislation is called — The SAVE Act, the SAVE America Act, the MEGA act, proof of citizenship bills — all are related to one outcome. They will prevent U.S. citizens who currently vote from being able to vote in the future.

Of course, that’s the exact plan if you listen to President Donald Trump. In fact, it’s not just any U.S. citizens, but specifically ones he thinks will vote against him and the Republican Party.

Simply, his favored national legislation is a way to pick and choose who can vote for him. Take it from his own words:

1. “We’ll never lose a race. For 50 years, we won’t lose a race…”

That’s what Trump said at an early 2026 event in Rome, Georgia, when talking about why Republicans need to pass the SAVE Act.

A 50-year victory plan? Pretty clear why he wants to restrict voting rights.

2. “The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting."

If you thought that was bad, here’s the quote from the same podcast interview: “The Republicans should say, ‘We want to take over.’ We should take over the voting in at least — many — fifteen places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting.”

A reminder, presidents don’t set election law and they never will. Not Republican presidents. Not Democratic presidents.

3. “They had things, levels of voting that if you’d ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again."

This was Trump’s response more than 5 years ago on efforts to make voting accessible to all Americans. It shows even years ago, his goal was to pick and choose who should vote, not help all Americans exercise their right to cast a ballot.

If you don’t want to nationalize our elections so Trump avoid accountability, add your name to our petition to have the U.S. Senate reject the SAVE Act.
