Florida Voting Rights Act

FLORIDA’S OWN VOTING RIGHTS ACT
Florida has a long history of enacting laws that attack our democracy and create obstacles to the ballot box for eligible voters of color.
The Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Florida Voting Rights Act (or FLVRA) is an important bill (SB 1582 and HB 1409) that promises to expand voter access in Florida by providing key protections that prevent and guard against discriminatory voting practices.
The Florida Voting Rights Act (FLVRA) would ensure every Floridian can vote freely and fairly—especially communities that have been historically marginalized and targeted by voter suppression efforts.
Passing the Florida Voting Rights Act would:
- Repeal recent Florida laws that have made it harder to vote by mail
- Establish Election Day as a holiday and authorize Same-Day Voter Registration
- Require counties with histories of voter suppression to get preclearance before making voting changes
- Expand access to the ballot for eligible voters who don’t speak English
- Strengthen transparency and accountability around election changes
- And more!
