Election Protection

We work to ensure every eligible voter can cast their ballot freely, fairly, and securely through nonpartisan programs that prioritize voter access, education, and engagement.

Year-Round Voter Protection

Floridians deserve a democracy that values and holds sacred the freedom to vote.

Common Cause Florida co-leads the nonpartisan Florida Election Protection Coalition, a partnership of over 35 organizations dedicated to ensuring that every eligible voter can cast their ballot and have their vote counted accurately. Election Protection is not affiliated with any party, candidate, or issue campaign and is active year-round.

Voters who have questions or experience problems can call the multilingual Election Protection hotlines to get advice and support. During elections, these hotlines are connected to on-the-ground programming and response teams who address problems as they occur.

Help Florida Voters in 2025

No eligible Florida voter should be deprived of their right to vote due to confusion, suppression, or intimidation.

This is why Common Cause Florida and the Florida Election Protection Coalition train and field hundreds of nonpartisan volunteers in priority counties where voters have been historically disenfranchised and underrepresented in our democracy. Direct volunteer intervention is the most effective way to make sure voters can’t be disenfranchised by confusion over election rules, long lines, under-resourced polling places, inaccurate information, or acts of intimidation.

Help safeguard our elections by signing up to be a:

  • Poll Monitor: Identify and report issues at the polls, answer voter questions, and connect those who are denied a ballot to legal resources.
  • Voting Rights Legal Monitor: If you are a lawyer, rove in one county to rapidly respond to voting rights issues and complete poll site accessibility reviews to increase barrier-free voting for Floridians with disabilities.
  • Digital Democracy Activists: From the comfort of your home, report disinformation, correct misinformation, and share positive, accurate information.
  • Poll Worker: Work directly with your county Supervisor of Elections office to keep elections fair and safe.
  • Canvassing Board Monitor: Learn about the functions of your county’s canvassing board and how to prepare for possible recounts, audits, and election certification challenges. Attorneys and non-lawyers needed.
