The Florida legislature continues to prepare for the 2017 legislative session holding a fourth week of committee meetings this week. Common Cause Florida has several priority issues that are expected to receive attention during this year’s regular session which begins on March 7th. Work on some of these issues has already begun during pre-session committee weeks in December, January and now February.

Since December of 2016, committee meetings have been taking place in Tallahassee in preparation for the 2017 legislative session. Common Cause Florida has several priority issues that are expected to receive attention during this year’s regular session which begins on March 7th. Week nine of the 2016 Florida legislative session will soon be over and there was action on issues that are priorities for Common Cause Florida. One of our top priorities is now on the Governor’s desk awaiting his signature. Another priority failed to make it out of its last committee stop and is dead for the 2016 session. After passing an $82 billion budget, the legislature is expected to adjourn on Friday afternoon.

Week seven of the 2016 Florida legislative session is over and there was action on issues that are priorities for Common Cause Florida. Most of the legislation we support is well positioned to pass in the final two weeks of the session. All of the legislation we once considered problematic has been neutralized to the point that Common Cause Florida is no longer opposing it.

Week eight of the 2016 Florida legislative session is over and there was action on issues that are priorities for Common Cause Florida. Unfortunately, one of our top priorities failed to make it out of its last committee stop this week and the committee is not scheduled to meet again. All of the legislation we once considered problematic has been neutralized to the point that Common Cause Florida is no longer opposing it.

Week two of the 2016 Florida legislative session is over and there was action on issues of concern to Common Cause Florida. The big news this week came on Wednesday when the Florida Senate announced it would not appeal a Leon County judge’s ruling on a Senate redistricting plan.
