CBS Cancels Stephen Colbert After Trump Criticism<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n

Just days after late-night host Stephen Colbert publicly criticized his employers for their disgraceful $16 million payout to Trump, CBS abruptly canceled his show<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

CBS claims that canceling the highest-rated late-night show in the country is \u201cpurely a financial decision<\/span><\/a>\u201d \u2013 but I bet you can see what\u2019s really going on.<\/p>\r\n

And regardless of their actual motive, corporate news outlets like CBS are sending everyone who works for them, journalists, researchers, even late-night comedians a clear message: speak out against Trump or the company bosses, and you\u2019re out.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n

What They Want You to Forget<\/h3>\r\n

CBS and its parent company, Paramount, recently\u00a0<\/span>handed Trump a massive, $16 million payout<\/b><\/a> to settle a baseless lawsuit, one that legal experts called \u201cridiculous junk\u201d and \"frivolous\" from the start, seemingly because they need Trump\u2019s approval for a multi-billion-dollar merger deal.<\/p>\r\n

Right now, CBS and Paramount are making it clear that they care more about building a media monopoly than protecting their own journalists and upholding the freedom of the press. It\u2019s on all of us to speak out now and hold them accountable.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This Is Bigger Than One Show<\/h3>\r\n

This is more than just one lawsuit or television show.<\/p>\r\n

Trump is waging a war on the free press \u2013 tearing down public media like PBS and NPR, suing independent outlets into silence, and trying to coerce corporate media giants into submission.<\/p>\r\n

These attacks are straight out of the authoritarian playbook<\/span><\/a>. A free, independent media is a First Amendment guarantee that\u2019s essential to democracy, helping expose corruption, hold leaders accountable, and inform the public.<\/p>\r\n
