Yesterday, Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) introduced his Government By the People Act, HR 20<\/a>, legislation to raise up the voices of everyday people in the political process.<\/p>

The bill (full description here<\/a>) empowers everyday Americans to participate<\/span> in the election process by providing every American a $25 My Voice<\/em> tax credit that can be donated to a Congressional candidate of your choice. With Americans newly empowered to participate in campaign giving, candidates will be able to re-engage with everyday voters, improving our representative democracy and reducing Congress' dependence on big money interests.<\/p>

It also amplifies the voice of everyday Americans<\/span> by providing a 6 to 1 match for every political contribution to a Congressional candidate under $150.<\/p>

The bill helps sever Congress' dependence on big money so that Congress can focus on the people's priorities. It helps return our government to one that is of, by, and for the people, not of, by, and for the big money donors.<\/p>

Over 130 House members have signed on as cosponsors<\/a><\/strong>. Four are from Massachusetts: Congressman Jim McGovern, Congressman Stephen Lynch, Congressman John Tierney, and Congresswomen Katherine Clark. Send a tweet thanking these Representatives for their support.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>
