We got a call recently from one of our members down in Pueblo, Colorado. He was concerned that a group tasked by City Council<\/a> to improve police community relations was meeting behind closed doors.<\/p>

It looks like Council has given the Human Relations Commission stakeholders group (HRC stakeholders group) decision-making authority, but is not also requiring the meetings to be open as is required by Colorado law.<\/p>

We sent a letter to Council today urging them to open up the meetings. <\/a><\/p>

Government business has to be conducted in the open. Our open meetings laws become particularly important when such a contentious issue as police accountability to the community is on the table.
