The cases, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Causa com\u00fan contra Rucho<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> y <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lamone contra Benisek<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, hoped to fix partisan gerrymanders in North Carolina and Maryland, respectively\u2014where both Democrats and Republicans had rigged electoral maps in their favor.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Activists assembled on the court\u2019s steps, advocates made waves in the press, and some politicians have sounded off to call out the Supreme Court on its disastrous decision.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As the justices hang up their robes for the summer, the fight for fair maps and representation continues\u2014with quite a few Democrats and Republicans stepping into the fray. Let\u2019s take a look at what some of the big names are saying.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among the crowded 2020 Democratic presidential field, Sen. Elizabeth Warren started her own mini-thread, where she called out the Supreme Court and called for more independent redistricting commissions in the states. Sen. Kamala Harris took a firm stance too, and declared that \u201cbanning partisan gerrymandering will be a top priority\u201d for her as president.<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/ewarren\/status\/1144276518786555906\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/KamalaHarris\/status\/1144269659623043073\r\n\r\nSen. Michael Bennet answered the call when asked by Common Cause what he would do to end partisan gerrymandering too--coming out firmly against the court's decision.\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/michaelbennet\/status\/1144678295600082944?s=21\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders had tweets of their own, calling out the Supreme Court for letting state politicians for \u201crig our democracy.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeBiden\/status\/1144277961287147520\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/BernieSanders\/status\/1144258136230060035\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As did former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, referencing the disproportionate impact gerrymandering has on communities of color.<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/HillaryClinton\/status\/1144283831022829569\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called for action as well. Pelosi issued a statement connecting the issue back to H.R.1, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/es\/our-work\/constitution-courts-and-democracy-issues\/hr-1\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ley para el Pueblo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which would require states to set up independent citizens redistricting commissions.<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerPelosi\/status\/1144372291800915968\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSchumer\/status\/1144275185396305922\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eric Holder, the former Attorney General under President Obama who has since made gerrymandering his top issue, tweeted out his own message\u2014reminding us that the states and the people can still fix redistricting without the court.<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/EricHolder\/status\/1144274740523282434\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But it wasn\u2019t just Democrats calling out the court on for ducking its responsibility to bring justice to North Carolina and Maryland voters. Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger tweeted out a thread of his own, pointing out that \u201cthis isn\u2019t the end of our fight to terminate gerrymandering.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/Schwarzenegger\/status\/1144247155168727041\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He even threw in a gif for good measure.<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/Schwarzenegger\/status\/1144248543969832960\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Former Ohio Governor and GOP presidential candidate John Kasich took to Twitter as well, pointing out the power states have to end gerrymandering, regardless of the Supreme Court\u2019s decision.<\/span>\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnKasich\/status\/1144265971101765633\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As did two Republican officials from Maryland, where Democratic maps were recently challenged.
