Common Cause is calling on Secretary Evnen to stop any efforts to share the voter file with the federal government, since states have authority over their own elections.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cUnelected bureaucrats in Washington have no business accessing every Nebraskans' sensitive personal information<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Not now, not ever,\u201d <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">said Gavin Geis, Common Cause Nebraska Executive Director. \u201c<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">State law protects our information for good reason.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Will Secretary Evnen be responsible if this information is hacked? Will taxpayers be on the hook to pay any settlements? We\u2019re calling on the Secretary to protect Nebraskans\u2019 personal information and comply with state law to keep all of us safe from fraud and abuse of our data.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThis push for voter data is part of the Trump administration\u2019s broader playbook\u2014using government power to target communities instead of protecting them,\u201d <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">said Omar Noureldin, Common Cause Senior Vice President for Policy &amp; Litigation.<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> \u201cThe Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division should be focused on fighting discrimination and intimidation to safeguard every American\u2019s right to vote, not weaponizing sensitive information against voters.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/nebraska\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Verified-Complaint-File-Stamped-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">You can view the complaint here<\/a>.
