But this fight isn\u2019t over\u2014and what just happened in Washington last week makes our work even more urgent.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Donald Trump issued a sweeping executive order trying to take control of how states like Colorado run our elections. It\u2019s unlawful. Congress has already set the rules for registering to vote in federal elections. Trump doesn\u2019t get to rewrite them.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But this attack is part of a larger, dangerous trend.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across the country, politicians are rolling back voting rights\u2014closing polling places, targeting voters of color, and dismantling the very protections that made our democracy fairer.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colorado can\u2014and must\u2014be a leader in this moment.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>The Colorado Voting Rights Act would:<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Protect Coloradans\u2019 right to vote<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the face of attacks on the Voting Rights Act of 1965<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Prohibit discrimination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in how elections are run and how communities are represented<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Create access to multi-lingual ballots<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in municipal elections for the first time<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establish the nation\u2019s<\/span><b> first state-level protections for LGBTQ+ voters<\/b><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protect the right to vote for eligible voters who are <\/span><b>confined in county jails<\/b><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And more! (If you can believe it)<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These protections aren\u2019t theoretical. Voter discrimination still happens\u2014often quietly, in local elections where rules are outdated and unfair. Communities of color continue to face persistent barriers to fair representation in local government, and this bill ensures Coloradans have strong tools to fight for our rights.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colorado has transformed how we run elections\u2014mail voting, early voting, automatic registration\u2014and we\u2019ve become a national model. Now it\u2019s time to ensure that every part of our system lives up to our values.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>This moment demands action. With Trump attacking from the top and national protections collapsing, it\u2019s up to us to protect the right to vote here at home.<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here at Colorado Common Cause, our team is small but mighty.
