Ein einzelner, anonymer Spender stellte im vergangenen Jahr fast 1428,5 Millionen TP28 an eine gemeinn\u00fctzige Organisation, das Wellspring Committee, zur Verf\u00fcgung, das wiederum die Kampagne hinter der wichtigsten Errungenschaft von Pr\u00e4sident Trumps erstem Amtsjahr finanzierte: die Best\u00e4tigung des Richters am Obersten Gerichtshof Neil Gorsuch.<\/p>

Der Beitrag des Spenders machte mehr als 80 Prozent der gesamten Spendensammlung von Wellspring in diesem Jahr aus. Wellspring leitete 1417 Millionen TP20 an das Judicial Crisis Network weiter, das zun\u00e4chst 147 Millionen TP20 in Anzeigen gegen Pr\u00e4sident Obamas Kandidaten f\u00fcr den Obersten Gerichtshof, Merrick Garland, investierte und sp\u00e4ter weitere 1410 Millionen TP20 in die F\u00f6rderung von Gorsuch.<\/p>

Republikanische Senatoren hielten einen Sitz am Obersten Gerichtshof \u00fcber ein Jahr lang unbesetzt, anstatt Garland zu best\u00e4tigen, der bei seiner Ernennung zum Richter am US-Berufungsgericht f\u00fcr den District of Columbia \u00fcberw\u00e4ltigende Unterst\u00fctzung \u00fcberparteilicher Parteien genossen hatte. Pr\u00e4sident Trump nominierte Gorsuch in seinen ersten Amtswochen und der neue Richter wurde im April bei einer Abstimmung best\u00e4tigt, die \u00fcberwiegend den Parteilinien entsprach.<\/p>

Die Geldspur, die zu seiner Best\u00e4tigung f\u00fchrte, wurde aufgedeckt in eine am Dienstag von MapLight ver\u00f6ffentlichte Geschichte<\/a><\/strong>, eine Website, die den Einfluss von Geld in der Politik verfolgt. Dies ist ein weiteres Beispiel daf\u00fcr, wie reiche Spender im Verborgenen bleiben k\u00f6nnen, w\u00e4hrend sie gleichzeitig politische Schuldscheine anh\u00e4ufen, indem sie enorme Geldsummen in Wahlk\u00e4mpfe und politische Debatten stecken.<\/p>

\u201eDark Money\u201c-Gruppen wie Wellspring haben im vergangenen Jahr mehr als 14 Billionen TP1,5 Milliarden in die politischen Wahlen gesteckt, wie aus Zahlen der Zentrum f\u00fcr Responsive Politik<\/a><\/strong>. Wellspring engagierte sich nicht direkt in der Wahlpolitik, aber seine Anti-Garland-Werbung unterst\u00fctzte die Position der Republikaner zu einem wichtigen Thema im Pr\u00e4sidentschaftswahlkampf und im Senatswahlkampf im ganzen Land. Die Werbung verhalf Trump auch zu einem Sieg, den er im Wahlkampf f\u00fcr republikanische Kandidaten bei den kommenden Wahlen anpreist.<\/p>

W\u00e4hrend Spender an bestimmte gemeinn\u00fctzige Gruppen in der \u00d6ffentlichkeit anonym bleiben k\u00f6nnen, steht es ihnen frei, sich bei den Amtstr\u00e4gern zu melden, die von ihren Spenden profitieren. Das erh\u00f6hte Korruptionspotenzial, wenn gro\u00dfe Geldbetr\u00e4ge anonym in unser politisches System gepumpt werden, ist der Grund, warum Common Cause und andere Organisationen zur Demokratiereform sich f\u00fcr strengere Offenlegungsgesetze und -vorschriften einsetzen.<\/p>

Wellspring behauptet, gem\u00e4\u00df Paragraph 501(c)(4) des Steuergesetzes zu arbeiten, was dem Unternehmen zwar eine Steuerbefreiung gew\u00e4hrt, seinen Spendern jedoch nicht erlaubt, ihre Beitr\u00e4ge steuerlich abzusetzen. Gruppen gem\u00e4\u00df Paragraph 501(c)(4) k\u00f6nnen die Identit\u00e4t ihrer Spender verbergen und sind in ihrer M\u00f6glichkeit, sich an Wahlkampfaktivit\u00e4ten zu beteiligen, eingeschr\u00e4nkt.<\/p>

Die IRS hat das Gesetz dahingehend interpretiert, dass die (c)(4)-Mitglieder ihre Wahlkampfausgaben auf weniger als die H\u00e4lfte ihrer Gesamtausgaben beschr\u00e4nken m\u00fcssen. Gemeinn\u00fctzige Organisationen, die sich haupts\u00e4chlich mit der Nominierung oder Wahl von Personen f\u00fcr \u00f6ffentliche \u00c4mter besch\u00e4ftigen, sind nach einem anderen Teil des Steuergesetzes zu organisieren, n\u00e4mlich als politische Organisationen nach Abschnitt 527. Diese Gruppen genie\u00dfen eine Steuerbefreiung, m\u00fcssen aber ihre Spender offenlegen.<\/p>
