Juni 2019 hat der Stadtrat von DC einstimmig<\/span>\u00a0Die<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Gesetz zur Wiederherstellung des Wahlrechts von 2019<\/span><\/b><\/a>, <\/span><\/b>Gesetzgebung, die\u00a0would restore voting rights to currently incarcerated individuals.\u00a0 The District of Columbia currently has immediate restoration of your voting rights upon release from incarceration. However, this bill would allow incarcerated individuals to vote while incarcerated. If approved, DC would join the ranks of Maine and Vermont - the only states that never take away voting rights, even after incarceration. The bill, once signed by the Mayor, would take effect on January 1, 2021.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nDer Entzug des Wahlrechts ist eine Nebenfolge einer Verurteilung wegen eines Verbrechens. Zu diesen Konsequenzen geh\u00f6ren allzu oft Hindernisse bei der Geschworenent\u00e4tigkeit, beim Zugang zu F\u00fchrerscheinen, Waffenscheinen (selbst wenn das verurteilte Verbrechen keine Gewalt beinhaltete), Berufslizenzen, Wohnungsbauprogrammen und\u00a0<\/span>finanzielle Hilfe. Insbesondere der Entzug des Wahlrechts wegen schwerer Verbrechen ist eine Nebenfolge, die unsere Demokratie beeintr\u00e4chtigt, indem sie die Stimmen der Gemeinden im ganzen Land zum Schweigen bringt. Die Entscheidung des DC-Rats, inhaftierten Personen das Wahlrecht zur\u00fcckzugeben und damit die Praxis der Entziehung des Wahlrechts wegen Schwerverbrechern effektiv zu beenden, ist ein Schritt in die richtige Richtung. Mit diesem Schritt hat der Stadtrat DC an die Spitze der Liste und ins neue Jahrtausend gebracht.
