Find Your State

This position will require direct community organizing and policy work (redistricting and campaign finance reform in particular) in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. It will also require some strategic guidance and mentorship to geographically dispersed staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize, recruit members, forge alliances, and educate the public and elected officials on Common Cause issues
  • Work with ED and other staff to design, plan, fund, and implement strategies that further the expansion of California Common Cause

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience, education and are/technical proficiency:

  • 5+ years of experience in politics, nonprofits, or government
  • Demonstrated leadership experience developing and implementing a strategic vision
  • Flexibility in working style, marked by an ability to work closely with a range of personalities with the ability to resolve conflicts directly and professionally.
  • Robust experience of effectively leading a performance- and outcome-based program and staff
  • Exceptional writing skills and experience crafting messages for members, donors, and foundations.
  • Strong technology skills with experience using MS Office and a membership database (CRM) such as VAN, Action Network, Nation Builder, or similar platform;
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with social media tools including Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter.

Ideally you’ll have:

  • Commitment to and passion for Common Cause’s mission and vision
  • Familiarity with Common Cause issues, especially redistricting and campaign finance reform.
  • Community background in underrepresented communities and fluency in a second language used widely in California (e.g. Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, etc.)–strongly preferred.
  • Capacity to adapt rapidly to changing priorities, objectives, and situations and still meet deadlines
  • Experience working with geographically dispersed staff preferred
  • Knowledge of political process, including understanding the connection between grassroots campaigns and the legislative process;
  • Commitment to racial equity and racial justice.
  • Willingness and ability to engage in regular regional travel with personal transportation and able to work some evenings and weekends. Miles driven will be reimbursed at the federal mileage rate.

SALARY: 

$70,000 – $90,000, plus generous benefits package
