{"id":2681,"date":"2025-08-25T13:15:27","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T20:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/california\/?post_type=article&p=2681"},"modified":"2025-08-26T09:21:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T16:21:20","slug":"did-you-get-this-mailer","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/california\/articles\/did-you-get-this-mailer\/","title":{"rendered":"Did You Get This Mailer?"},"template":"","class_list":["post-2681","article","type-article","status-publish","hentry","article_type-blog-post"],"acf":{"details":{"summary":"","featured_image":"","article_type":183,"authors":"","related_issues":false,"related_work":false,"location":null},"sidebar":{"helper_enable_sidebar":false,"helper_media_contact":{"heading":"Media Contact","manually_enter_person":false,"person":"","name":"","role":"","phone":"","email":""},"helper_links_downloads":{"heading":"Links & Downloads","links":null}},"page_layout":[{"acf_fc_layout":"layout_wysiwyg","_acfe_flexible_toggle":"","component_wysiwyg":{"content":"You might have gotten a misleading piece of political mail from a group called \u201cProtect Voters First\u201d about California\u2019s redistricting ballot initiative in November.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nI am posting this today to make sure you know the truth: Common Cause is not part of \u201cProtect Voters First\u201d and we didn\u2019t authorize this mailing, period.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nIn California and across the country, Common Cause has taken a hard look at what we\u2019re up against \u2013 a president and party who want to end free and fair elections to preserve their grip on power, including by ordering Texas Republicans to draw up five new GOP districts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nAs a result,<\/span> California Common Cause will not support or oppose drawing new voting maps for our state as a counterbalance.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nCalifornia\u2019s leaders listened to Common Cause and followed our six fairness criteria for mid-decade redistricting<\/a> \u2013 which means our focus for the upcoming special election will be election protection, voter education, and voter empowerment in the lead up to November 4.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nNow, <\/span>the people spending millions to block these new maps are falsely implying we\u2019re on their side<\/span><\/b> -- using a weeks-old quote from before we released our fairness criteria and before we made sure California\u2019s response to Texas\u2019s pro-Republican gerrymander met them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nI want to be perfectly clear:<\/span><\/b> California Common Cause\u2019s sole focus in November\u2019s special election is making sure our state\u2019s voters have a voice \u2013 and that big money donors and out-of-state partisan interests don\u2019t get to drown out the people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\nThere\u2019s a lot riding on how our state votes this November \u2013 for Californians, for the entire country, and for the future of American democracy.
