More Transparency Coming to Money in California Politics

Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed bipartisan legislation to bring greater transparency to money in California politics. Senate Bill 1349, by Sen. Bob Hertzberg, D-Van Nuys, will direct the Secretary of State to modernize Cal-Access, California’s online system for campaign finance filing and disclosure. California Common Cause was a sponsor of the bill, along with the California Business Roundtable.

Legislature Allows Local and State Choice to Create Citizen Funded Election Systems

Sacramento – Today, the Legislature showed bipartisan support for Senate Bill 1107 (Allen, Hancock, Chiu, Gonzalez), which would enable the state and local governments to address special interest money in politics with citizen funded election systems by amplifying the voices of small donors and everyday voters. California Common Cause is a sponsor of this bill.

Californians to vote on the Overturn Citizens United Act in November

Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday allowed the Overturn Citizens United Act to go onto the November ballot, after thousands of activists across California inundated Brown’s office with emails, faxes and phone calls urging him to support the bill, known as SB 254. The bill is authored by Sen. Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica), and co-sponsored by a coalition of grassroots organizations including Los Angeles-based Money Out Voters In (MOVI) and California Common Cause.
