Redistricting & Representation Research/Communications Consultant — Ideally based in Los Angeles, CA
REPORTS TO: Redistricting & Representation Director
Responsible for working with Common Cause staff around the country to support research and communications needs. Strategize with Redistricting & Representation team, state staff, and communications staff to help public understand redistricting process and reforms, identify state and national trend stories; research and develop outreach materials, support media, social, and member, and internal communications.
Work directly with staff responsible for running census, redistricting, and related representation program activities, state executive directors and staff, and communications staff. Work with national and state-based media to create maximize exposure for Common Cause work in litigation, reform efforts, and public education. Assist program staff to promote work on social media, internet platforms, and other methods of communication. Provide strategic communications support to state offices with active redistricting or representation campaigns.
Basic knowledge of census, redistricting and representation issues is pre-requisite. 2-5 years experience in working with traditional and social media communications is a plus. Strong design sense, graphics and video creation experience, strong writing and editing skills are a plus. Experience working in non-profit or related setting is a plus. Demonstrated interest and commitment to advancing public interest reforms; ability to work in close collaboration on a team with others; demonstrated ability to work under pressure and perform a variety of tasks; well organized and attentive to detail; strong self-initiative required.
