Six Ways Common Cause is Fighting Six Months of Attacks

From banning insider trading to beating gerrymandering, Common Cause is taking action.

Six months of attacks on our democracy. Six powerful ways we’re fighting back. From banning insider trading to beating gerrymandering, Common Cause is taking action where it counts: in the courts, in the streets, and with the people.

Keep reading to see six ways we are fighting against the Trump Administration.

1. Stopping the Stock Shady Business

We 100% support banning Congressional insider trades.

While the Trump Administration tries to distract the American people with scandals, Congress maintains its wealth from insider trades. Here at Common Cause, we’re leading the charge to ban congressional stock trading, because public service should never lead to private profit.

President & CEO Virginia Kase Solomón called out the Congressional cash grab on C-SPAN: “They (members of congress) invest in portfolios like normal folks. You should not be able to have insider information about what is happening, potentially trade different stocks, and then execute trades accordingly. So we are very serious when it comes to that issue, and we are 100% in support of a stock trading ban.”

Conflict of interest? Try a conflict with democracy. We’re done with it.

2. We’re Redrawing the Lines – Literally

Texas & California are trying it. We are shutting it down.

Trump allies in Texas tried to sneak in redistricting, with California following, and Common Cause said: absolutely not. Gerrymandering is simply voter suppression, no matter which side is in control. Whether its Texas maps built to erase Black and Latino voters, or California’s sudden redraw attempt, we’re fighting back in court, online, and on the streets. See what our states, Texas and California, have to say about it!

Drawing maps behind closed doors? That’s not democracy, it’s manipulation.

3. We Testified in Congress, Because Truth Hits Harder on the Record

Real voters > Fake narratives

The Trump administration doesn’t want to hear from voters; they want complete control of the narrative. When it came time to talk about voter suppression, we brought frontline testimony to Congress. North Carolina voter Mary Kay Heling spoke the truth about the real barriers she faces when casting her ballot. When politicians lie, we send the people who tell the truth. Watch the full hearing here!

You want to control the story? Too bad, Common Cause keeps the receipts.

4. Voting Rights Wins in Colorado and Maryland

While they suppress, we expand.

Trump’s playbook includes strategies to: confuse, suppress, and scare. Our playbook? Expand access and empower voters. In Colorado, we helped pass one of the strongest state-level Voting Rights Acts in the country. In Maryland, we secured a law that ensures language barriers don’t block people from voting. These victories guarantee voters can cast their ballots confidently.

This is what democracy looks like – accessible, inclusive, and unstoppable!

5. We Petitioned to Bring Back Colbert

Satire is survival.

We know the fight for democracy isn’t just about policy; it also includes culture. In a world where Trump’s press crackdowns and censorship are real, we launched a petition to bring back Stephen Colbert. Comedy cuts through the chaos, and Colbert has always delivered the truth wrapped in a punchline.

If Trump’s going to gaslight America, we’re going to laugh and organize.

6. The People’s Promise is Poppin’ Off

Grassroots vs. Gaslighting

When Trump hit 100 days with executive tantrums and authoritarian vibes, we didn’t sit back and watch; we rolled up our sleeves. The People’s Promise Campaign is our bold counterpunch to the chaos: a movement powered by young activists, civil rights icons, and the communities under attack. This isn’t just about resisting Trump, it’s about rebuilding the democracy he’s trying to bulldoze.

And trust us – this promise is one we intend to keep.

Trump’s first six months were a masterclass in chaos, but Common Cause is coming in hot with real action, real wins, and real people. The fight for democracy belongs to you. Join us, raise your voice, and help make the next six months a turning point, not a tragedy.
