Countering Trump’s Anti-immigrant Attack
In a startling announcement, Donald Trump has declared that one of his first official acts as President will be to initiate large-scale immigration raids in cities across the country, targeting thousands of our neighbors. These raids could begin as early as tomorrow afternoon.
This mass deportation campaign is designed to tear apart families, violate civil rights, and instill fear in communities, pushing people out of civic life. The implications of these actions go beyond the individuals targeted—they affect us all. When naturalized citizens and other new Americans feel too afraid to report a crime or call the fire department in an emergency, the safety and well-being of our entire society are compromised.
Immigrants are integral to the foundation and success of this nation, contributing to its standing as the longest-lasting and most successful democracy in history. Yet, by forcing immigrants into the shadows, the Trump administration threatens to undermine the multi-racial democracy and safe, thriving neighborhoods we all deserve.
We cannot allow this to happen.
This moment calls for action from every one of us. It starts with a commitment to stand in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors. Today, I urge you to join me in signing the Solidarity Pledge, organized by immigrant rights advocates.
Together, we can resist these anti-immigrant attacks by creating communities rooted in love, inclusion, and mutual support. By standing up for one another, we affirm the vision of a society where everyone belongs and thrives.
On the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let us honor his vision of a “beloved community,” where civil rights are not just protected but celebrated. Dr. King dreamed of a world united by justice, compassion, and shared humanity. Now is our chance to bring that vision to life.
Will you take the pledge today and join this movement of solidarity and love? Let’s work together to ensure that our neighborhoods remain places of safety and welcome for all.
Take the Pledge Today and commit to defending the rights and dignity of every member of our community.
