Civil Rights & Civil Liberties: Fighting For Our Freedom

Everyone should be able to live safely and thrive – without being attacked for who we are, where we’re from, or what we believe.

America is supposed to be the land of freedom, but we haven’t always lived up to this promise for everyone. Instead, corrupt politicians and big corporations are trying to divide us and chip away at our fundamental freedoms.

Common Cause works closely with our allies to uphold the rule of law and ensure everyone feels safe, welcome, and respected. This means demanding equal access to justice, protecting our right to dissent, opposing political violence in all its forms, and holding firm against an Article V constitutional convention to defend our rights.

Tell Congress: Protect birthright citizenship

Trump’s executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship would endanger millions of people born in this country and permanently reshape what it means to be an American.

The 14th Amendment is clear – and legal experts say Trump would likely need to pass a constitutional amendment through Congress to overrule it.

Congress must step up and REFUSE to help Trump shred our Constitution. We urge you to protect birthright citizenship and our 14th Amendment today.

Don’t let Trump take revenge on nonprofits

Don’t let Trump take revenge on nonprofits

The Senate must REJECT H.R. 9495, which would give President-elect Trump the green light to shut down nonprofits he disagrees with.

This dystopian legislation would hand Trump – and any other future president – a blank check to take revenge against organizations that are peacefully resisting or disagreeing with the White House’s policies.

We urge you to block this shameful bill and protect our right to dissent.
