The North Carolina General Assembly is likely to appeal the court\u2019s ruling striking down the map directly to the U.S. Supreme Court, which could hear the case in the next term.\r\n\r\nIn its brief Friday, Common Cause asked the court to assign a special master to create a new congressional map after the 2018 election.\r\n\r\n\u201cUnfortunately, the General Assembly\u2019s decision to draw a biased and gerrymandered map in 2016 allowed them to run out the clock and force North Carolinians to vote in unconstitutional districts one more time,\u201d said Bob Phillips, Common Cause North Carolina executive director. \u201cAlthough justice will be delayed one more election cycle, we will keep up the fight for fair representation here in North Carolina and across the country when this case heads to the U.S. Supreme Court.\u201d\r\n\r\nOn August 27, the three-judge federal district court panel again struck down North Carolina\u2019s U.S. House map as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander in the consolidated case of <em>\u0642\u0636\u064a\u0629 \u0645\u0634\u062a\u0631\u0643\u0629 \u0636\u062f \u0631\u0648\u062a\u0634\u0648<\/em> \u0648 <em>\u0631\u0627\u0628\u0637\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0627\u062e\u0628\u0627\u062a \u0641\u064a \u0648\u0644\u0627\u064a\u0629 \u0643\u0627\u0631\u0648\u0644\u064a\u0646\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0634\u0645\u0627\u0644\u064a\u0629 \u0636\u062f \u0631\u0648\u062a\u0634\u0648<\/em>. The court found violations of the First and Fourteenth Amendments along with Article I, sections 2 and 4 of the Constitution. The trial judges <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commoncause.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/CC_LWV_v_Rucho_MemorandumOpinion_01.09.18.pdf\">previously struck down the districts in January<\/a>, but the U.S. Supreme Court vacated and remanded the decision to require the judges to assess standing to sue in light of <em>\u062c\u064a\u0644 \u0636\u062f \u0648\u064a\u062a\u0641\u0648\u0631\u062f<\/em>.\r\n\r\nCommon Cause was joined in the litigation by the North Carolina Democratic Party and voters in each of the 13 gerrymandered districts.
