If true, the conduct of President Trump alleged in media reports this evening represents an obstruction of justice, an impeachable offense. The New York Times report that Trump asked FBI Director James Comey to end the agency’s investigation of Michael Flynn must be fully investigated by an independent commission and a special prosecutor looking into connections between Trump and Russia.

Americans are demanding answers. The people have a right to know. Congressional leadership needs to step-up and investigate these serious allegations.

Congress should call upon James Comey to testify publicly as soon as possible. The Comey memos about his meetings with the president should be made public, and if the conversations outlined in the reports were taped as President Trump has publicly implied, then those tapes must be reviewed for evidence of obstruction of justice.
