Seven Ways to Stop Trump’s $10 Billion IRS Payout to Himself
Blog Post
Pam Bondi’s recent testimony to Congress was outrageous.
She showed her loyalty to President Trump knows no bounds.
But the U.S. Attorney General is supposed to be the people’s legal watchdog, not the president’s personal lawyer. That means pushing back on corruption, bad behavior from corporations, and illegal activity from elected officials.
Pam Bondi is not fulfilling that role, and her record speaks for itself.
Here are four things to know about her history of putting herself and her interests above the common good.
Politics Over People
When preparing to launch her reelection campaign for Florida Attorney General in 2013, Bondi asked then Governor Rick Scott, to delay a death row execution because it interfered with a kickoff fundraising event for herself.
Typically, the state attorney general is available during executions in the event of last minute legal changes.
Hard to forget a headline like “Attorney general vows to never again delay an execution for a fundraiser.”
This goes to show where her priorities lie, not with the people, not with her own job, but with her donors.
The Donald J Trump Foundation Donation
In 2013, Pam Bondi personally asked for a $25,000 donation from Donald Trump’s Foundation charity to a PAC supporting her re-election for Florida Attorney General. Trump later had to pay a $2,500 fee because the donation violated charities supporting partisan political activities.
This illegal political contribution came days after Bondi’s office was hearing fraud allegations from Floridians involving Trump University and was deciding whether to join New York’s class action lawsuit of the university for fraud.
After the donation from Trump, Bondi’s office decided not to pursue a formal investigation.
Once again, Bondi prioritized her political ambition over bringing justice to her constituents.
Qatar Ties
In 2019, Bondi became a lobbyist for Ballard Partners, a firm with deep connections to President Trump. Bondi’s client list included the Qatari government.
In 2025, President Trump was gifted a $400 million dollar luxury jet from Qatar. The gift raised concerns of conflict of interest given Bondi’s past relationship representing the Qatari government’s interest in her last role. Even more concerning, as U.S. Attorney General, Bondi approved the gift under the condition it be transferred to the Trump Library Foundation.
Election Denial 101
Bondi was one of the loudest voices spreading President Trump’s lies about the 2020 election. The 2020 election results were thoroughly investigated and found to be free and fair dozens of times in the court of law—in fact, it was the case in 62 lawsuits Trump filed. Bondi has not retracted her stance on this issue.
Her willingness to spread lies likely helped her remain a staunch ally to President Trump and could certainly have been a consideration in picking her to serve in his presidential cabinet.
As U.S. attorney general, Pam Bondi should be working for the American people, not President Trump. She took an oath to the people to protect and defend, and Common Cause will continue to hold her accountable.
