Chief Justice John Roberts has revealed the hypocrisy behind the Citizens United ruling that invited millions in secret spending into our politics.

In his Williams-Yulee opinion he upheld a ban against judicial candidates directly soliciting contributions as necessary to stop the appearance of corruption.

But the Roberts Court's Citizens United ruling denies the rest of our democracy these same protections, instead opening the door to the influence and corruption unlimited spending brings to our political process.

We must fix fix this: demand a Constitutional amendment to overturn the dangerous Citizens United decision

Chief Justice Roberts' reasoning: The "mere possibility that judges' decisions might be motivated by the desire to repay campaign contributions" will undermine public faith in our courts.

But, he doesn't think there's a problem when the executive or legislative branch caters to big donors. His Court struck down common sense limits on corporate and special interest spending in Citizens United, saying big money influence and access "will not cause the electorate to lose faith in this democracy."

Today's decision blows the lid off that reasoning. The Supreme Court could revisit Citizens United and reverse it (I'm not holding my breath). But we can still fix the Court's mistake by amending the Constitution to make it absolutely clear: democracy belongs to voters, not donors.

16 states and 650 municipalities have passed resolutions calling for a constitutional amendment.

73% of Americans want Citizens United overturned.

And 5 million have already signed petitions demanding action.

Now it's time for Congress to listen. It's time to pass the Democracy For All amendment!
