It's the biggest threat to democracy that nobody is talking about.

The same Big Money forces buying our elections are trying to rewrite our Constitution -- and they've almost succeeded. They're working with groups like ALEC (the corporate lobby disguised as a charity) to ram a so-called "constitutional convention" through state legislatures.

Exploiting obscure provisions of Article V of our Constitution, they'd grant delegates unprecedented and unlimited power with zero checks or balances. In other words: political ideologues could enact their entire agenda without voter input -- costing the rest of us our fundamental rights and liberties.

This ALEC-led campaign has already succeeded in 27 of the 34 states they need. And, they've got the money and organization to go over the top this year. That means we'll be fighting back in states like South Carolina, Wisconsin, Virginia, and more -- and we want you on our side.

We can't afford to stand by and watch Big Money shred our Constitution.Take our pledge so we'll be ready to fight back >>

"I'm taking a stand against this backroom attack on our Constitution and the short-sighted balanced budget amendment. I pledge to educate lawmakers and my fellow citizens about the threat of a runaway constitutional convention and take action together to stop it in my state!"

This small group of wealthy, right-wing donors isn't satisfied with the enormous influence they wield over elected officials. Instead, they want to write their radical agenda directly into our Constitution using a constitutional convention where special interests will have unlimited authority to rig the rules and do whatever they want.

Their top priority is a balanced budget amendment, which is a very bad idea. It'd put judges in charge of settling disputes about federal spending and revenue, based on conflicting interpretations and estimates of what different programs will cost3. That makes it harder for us to hold our elected representatives accountable.

Worse, it'd severely constrain Congress's ability to respond to emergencies and natural disasters. And it'd make recessions hit harder and last longer -- since we'll have to immediately cut spending to make up for lost tax revenue whenever the economy contracts.

Here's the scariest part: most voters, and many lawmakers, are totally unaware of how close we are to complete constitutional chaos! We need your help to shine a spotlight on this backroom attack on our democracy -- and if we don't act this year, it might be too late.

These constitutional conspirators have big plans for 2016. If we want to stop them, we need to start building power now. That starts with YOU speaking out. Take our pledge today.
