NEW YORK, NY - "The Brennan Center has provided needed legal clarity on the various reasons why the New York State Board of Elections can and should close the notorious 'LLC Loophole'," said Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY. "The request for action clearly illuminates what most New Yorkers instinctively know: Limited Liability Companies are being used to skirt contribution limits and allow ever greater torrents of special interest campaign cash. Common Cause/NY is a long-term proponent of curbing this abuse of our campaign finance laws and urges the Board to promptly grant the Brennan Center's request."

Common Cause is a nonpartisan grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy. We work to create open, honest, and accountable government that serves the public interest; promote equal rights, opportunity, and representation for all; and empower all people to make their voices heard in the political process.
