Troubled by the undue influence of lobbyists in Washington, D.C., Common Cause’s founder John Gardner once said that, “Everyone is organized but the people.” In Michigan, our Common Cause chapter will be a leading voice for more open, accountable government, and continues to play a unique role as “the people’s lobbyist”—a voice for those who believe in a government of, by, and for the people.

Common Cause Michigan works to lift up the voices of ordinary people and make them heard by local, state, and national elected officials.

With the help of our dedicated members and volunteers, we are leading campaigns to get dark money out of politics, reduce barriers to voting, hold lawmakers accountable, simplify and modernize the state initiative process and improve the integrity of our media and democracy.
