Thank you Senators Markey and Warren!

Thank you Senators Markey and Warren!

Common Cause Massachusetts thanks MA Senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren for signing a letter opposing the Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger

Yesterday, a group of six United States Senators stood up for localism, diversity, and choice, by writing a letter to Chairman Tom Wheeler of the Federal Communications Commission and Attorney General Eric Holder, expressing their opposition to the proposed Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger.

We are proud to say that of those six, two were Senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts! They were the only Senate delegation in the entire country to uniformly act on the issue, and this is therefore another example of how Massachusetts leads in protecting an open media and fighting for a fair democracy.

Please join us in thanking Senators Markey and Warren now!

Comcast’s proposed acquisition of Time Warner would be bad for consumers, business, and for democracy. All of us are better off with choice and competitive service options. If allowed to move forward, the merger would result in a single communications behemoth that controls more than 50% of the broadband market, with unprecedented sway over what Americans can see and say on both cable and the web. That’s why Common Cause, this Senate delegation, unions, civil rights groups, netroots, creators, and even telecom industry trade groups, have come together to fight the deal.

Meanwhile, Comcast is trying to use its massive wallet and army of lobbyists to secure the merger despite public outcry. With your help, however, we can get enough voices together to let real speech beat back big money!

ACT NOW:

By thanking Senators Markey and Warren, you’re standing with them and strengthening their arguments against the Comcast-Time Warner merger.

Beyond that, you can write the FCC yourself and express your personal opposition to this telecom acquisition as well.
