Government by the people is increasingly under attack by big money in politics. Thanks to the Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (2010), independent political organizations can now pour unlimited political contributions from corporations and millionaires and billionaires into our elections. The system was broken before Citizens United, but the decision has only made matters worse. This avalanche of money means our elected representatives are increasingly beholden to the biggest donors rather than to the voters. It is no way to run a democracy.
As long as politicians are dependent on the corporations, lobbyists, and wealthy individuals who finance their campaigns, they're never going to be fully accountable to the people who elected them. Every Bay Stater's voice should be heard. That's why we should replace special interest-funded elections with Citizen Funded Elections.
