Common Cause Massachusetts continues to play a vital role as one of the state's lead ethics experts, not afraid to speak out when public officials transgress ethical standards, and equally important, not afraid to speak out when ethics laws go too far.

We work to restore public confidence in government by elevating ethical standards for public officials. We helped to shape the state's early ethics laws, including those creating the State Ethics Commission and enacting the financial disclosure law, and have continued to raise ethical standards through legislation closing loopholes, improving enforcement, increasing penalties, and by filing ethics complaints and speaking out in the press as needed.

We must remain constantly vigilant so that our public leaders remain our servants.
