Dear Friend,

Five years ago the Supreme Court opened the door to dark money in politics, when it ruled in Citizens United that third-party groups could spend unlimited amounts of money on independent expenditures. Maryland has already seen the impact as these third-party activities surged in 2012 and 2014.

There are two bills before the legislature this session, SB 153/HB 885 and HB 1088, that would help fight back by closing loopholes in our campaign finance law and tightening up standards for these independent campaign activities.

I've asked my state legislators to support this important legislation. Will you join me?
