Redistricting Reform

November 2017 - Progress

Indianapolis Star announces that Indianapolis City County Council passed the resolution for independent redistricting.

2015 Redistricting Notes

During the 2015 legislative session, the General Assembly passed House Enrolled Act 1003 which creates a study committee of legislators and citizens to spend 18 months studying redistricting commissions in other states and propose reform for Indiana.  This is an outstanding opportunity for advocates of independent redistricting to impact the process.

Common Cause Indiana and the League of Women Voters of Indiana, as leaders of the Indiana Coalition for Independent Redistricting, are hosting a seminar on June 6th in Indianapolis to get our supporters activated and ready for the study committee process.

We are also assembling a bipartisan slate of esteemed citizen leaders who we believe would be good candidates for appointment to the redistricting study committee and asking the four legislative leaders to consider appointing them.  The list includes former Indiana Supreme Court Justice Ted Boehm, former Fort Wayne Mayor PIndianapolis City County Council meeting, Common Cause Indiana will organize teams of citizens, organized by congressional district, to travel together to the meetings and provide coordinated activities and testimony to ensure the study committee hears our call for a truly independent commission that will prioritize the creation of competitive electoral districts for both state and Congressional districts.

Please contact Common Cause Indiana Policy Director Julia Vaughn for more information about coalition activities or redistricting reform.
