Just moments ago, Democratic and Republican leaders announced a stop gap budget that would provide a full year of funding for education and six months of appropriations for other areas. Common Cause IL supports the proposal as it moves to the Senate and the Governor’s desk for approval.

“This is great news for social service agencies and those that they serve, who have been disproportionately impacted by the budget impasse,” said Brian Gladstein, Executive Director of Common Cause Illinois. “While this is an encouraging first step, Illinoisans deserve a full budget that funds services throughout the state. We are concerned that without structural changes and political reform, future budget showdowns will become the status quo and people across the state will continue to suffer.”
