Common Cause Hawaii advocates for improved access at the legislature so that we may increase the level of civic participation in the lawmaking process, we believe that neighbor island citizens should have the same level of access at "the Lege" as Oahu citizens do. We support several initiatives meant to improve access at the Legislature, including:
- Allowing for use of live oral testimony at legislative hearings
- Promoting better coverage of committee hearings and floor votes via broadcasting/webcasting/recording and archiving methods
- Improving access to already public data, and advocating that other sets of data be made public
We are also proud to have played a role in:
- Updating our Sunshine Laws. The first major update in 20 years, bringing Hawaii's open meetings law into the 21st century.
