Redistricting

Congressional, state and local districts must be re-drawn every 10 years to reflect population changes – and how those district maps are drawn determines who has political power for the next decade. Legislators manipulated their own districts so effectively after the last census that voters in 80% of state legislative races will see only one major party candidate on the ballot this November. Partisan gerrymandering undermines the right of Georgia voters to choose their representatives and increases political polarization under the Gold Dome, which is why Common Cause Georgia is committed to pursuing independent redistricting in our state.
